Why use investment casting?
- Take out weight
- Reduce material costs
- Improve part appearance
- Tighten dimensional tolerances
- Minimize machining, welding, &/or assembly time

An investment cast part offers a streamlined, one piece design in your choice of casting alloys - a functional, cost-effective alternative to a part you might now be obtaining from machining, sand casting, fabrication, assembly, welding, or another production method.
Lead times vary according to the part complexity, finishing needed after casting, the NDT required and foundry capacity. Since investment castings are custom-made to your specifications, 6-8 weeks is typical at AMT for tooling and sample casting. 6-8 weeks is also typical for production orders, after sample approval, or for subsequent orders using existing tooling.
Of 3,000 foundries in the U.S. (sand, die, permanent mold, investment, etc.), only 10%, or 300, are investment casting foundries. The majority use the shell process. AMT is one of the few that uses both the shell and the solid mold processes. The solid mold process allows us to produce especially fragile (thin-wall, intricate) aluminum / non-ferrous parts.
To make lead times more livable in a business climate that demands Just-In-Time ordering, many companies offer stocking programs. By determining your projected use of a part over a given time period (such as a year), by contracting to purchase the projected quantity upon release, you can shortcut the normal lead time. Advance planning on your part will enable AMT to have parts available when you need them.
My first job is understanding your casting needs (form, fit, function). Our foundry engineers and I listen carefully, merging your expertise with our own, to be sure that all technical requirements are defined. We work with you at every step, because repeat customers are the core of our business.
The fastest way to reach me is by phone at 518-284-2910. If you already have a drawing for a ferrous or non-ferrous small part that fits comfortably in the palm of your hand, fax me a copy and I'll call you.
